Prototypes
RPO realizes the need for quick turnaround of prototype plastic optics. To this, RPO uses state of the art single point diamond turning (SPDT) machines for providing rapid prototyping of plastic optics to help our customers prove their system designs. This ensures that the optical design is fully functional before investing in the tooling and production.
Single Point Diamond Turning (SPDT) offers RPO the ability to rapidly make prototypes and to produce limited runs of extremely precise :

• Spheres
• Aspheres
• Parabolic mirrors
• Cylinders
• Window and plano optic assemblies
• Toroids
The Moore Nanotechnology 250 Ultra Precision machines that RPO uses are one of the most accurate lathes available today. Machine resolution of 0.04µ" (1nm) coupled with on-board profilometry enables RPO technicians to generate and verify optical surface and form accuracies to the sub-micron level and surface roughness measured to the angstrom level.
Perfect for Prototyping and Limited Runs
Single Point Diamond Turning is the perfect solution to quickly provide prototypes before the mold tooling is actually fabricated. RPO’s Single Point Diamond Turning services will save you time and development costs without the time consuming first step of designing and fabricating an injection mold. Diamond Turning is also
well suited for the manufacture of precision plastic optics in limited quantities.
Faster Research and Development of New Products
Single Point Diamond Turning also enables RPO to deliver production tooling with much shorter lead times than usually experienced in the marketplace. Whether it is single cavity developmental tooling or multi-cavity production tools, we provide our customers with quick turnaround and cost-effective solutions. |
